Swifts defenders primed for BLOCKBUSTER

After lining up on opposite ends of the court for the Allphones Arena BLOCKBUSTER last season, Sharni Layton and Sonia Mkoloma are happy they are both suiting up for the NSW Swifts for 2014.
The defenders are looking forward to their tough assignment this Sunday, 18th May against the Adelaide Thunderbirds attackers. In particular Erin Bell and Carla Borrego.
"Bell and Borrego are a great combination. They've been playing together for a couple of years now but we've just got to play as a whole team, it's not just a 'me and Sonia' job it is a whole team defence down the court' job and same thing in attack, we've got to make sure we're doing our role to get the ball down to our attackers." Layton said.

Sundays match

The NSW Swifts return home to take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds for the Club's BLOCKBUSTER fixture at the Allphones Arena.
The Swifts are currently sitting third on the ladder, and are taking a three game winning streak into this weekends contest against the defending champions.
The last three match-ups have been decided by three goals or less. NSW Swifts Assistant Coach Megan Anderson expects a tough contest when the two sides step on the court this weekend.
This year in round three the Swifts lost to the Thunderbirds by only one goal, so it will definitely be a tough match. The girls have only had a short preparation for this weeks match after returning home after a successful trip to Perth.
Not only will the Swifts use all they have got, they will hopefully be turning up to a crowd larger than last years at 8,021 spectators. The girls also have their eyes on the Melbourne Vixens ANZ Championships regular season record of 8,509.

Goodluck girls! :)

Rob Wright delighted with win over West Coast Fever

Round 11 Results

NSW Swifts win over the West Coast Fever in Perth last night with only an 11 point win.
With the 58-47 victory, Wright seemed genuinely pleased that his side had fought back from six goals down in the third quarter.
"I always think this is a tough place to come, especially tonight," he said, referring to Fever coach Norma Plummer's announcement in the previous week that she would not coach the Perth side in 2015.
Wright felt that the Swifts got back into the game once they addressed some discipline issues that cost them in the first half.
Abbey McCulloch lost court time and was replaced in the first half by April Letton at wing-defence.
After this game the NSW Swifts moved into third spot in the ANZ Championships table. Susan Pratley sparked the revival after the main break.
Pratley was one of the four Diamonds attackers on the court along with her Swifts teammate Caitlin Thwaites and the Fever pair of Natalie Medhurst and Caitlin Bassett.
Well done Swifts!
